Hey Barbie...
Magic Moves Barbie |
Remember when we went to Venus in your sparkly hot pink cape and tall go-go boots... We almost ended up at the beach with a yellow frisbee but we decided that Venus was a much cooler destination.
Remember when my aunt sewed you a dress from the scrap laces of our old curtain... Your handmade dress was so freeing compared to the blue pencil skirt you originally came with.
Remember when I dragged you to one of those family dinners... You wore your handmade dress. A family friend even gifted us with a Barbie brand, star-shaped light-up vanity... We played with it so much that the mirror got dirty and I decided to clean it with toothpaste...
Remember when we didn't have enough mini accessories to play with unlike our neighbour friend who had some of the coolest stuff. It didn't matter though. We had our imagination.
I remember when I got you as a Christmas gift. I didn't think you were too blonde or too thin. I didn't feel self-doubt because you were so pretty. I didn't care that you weren't Asian like me. I didn't want to be you. I just wanted you as a friend. The kind whose hair I can brush over and over without getting weirded out by my hair obsession. The kind that didn't have to go home by curfew. The one who listened to whatever I had to say no matter what time of day. The one who didn't spill secrets. The one who was always willing to go on ridiculous adventures to Venus.
Remember when life was simpler and everything was within our fingertips just by imagining it? I do. We had some good times!
Happy Birthday, Old Friend!
Aww. What a nice tribute to your dolly friend.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteI had her as a child! Great photos.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I only had two Barbie dolls as a child and Magic Moves was my favorite.
DeleteI also had her when I was young. Love her! Great photos :)
ReplyDeleteThanks! She was my first Barbie though I don't have my original anymore.
DeleteShe still looks great and it sounds like you had a lot of fun. What did happen to the mirror when you cleaned it with toothpaste?
ReplyDeleteFunny you should ask! I totally ruined it because it wasn't a glass mirror! Hahahaha!
DeleteSweet! Nice to look back and remember our feelings for our dolls. Pretty impactful.
